The meeting commenced at 10:30 AM with an introductory note by the coordinator, Fr. David Prakash. The primary objective of this gathering was to evaluate the progress made by the various pastoral commissions, highlight their accomplishments, address challenges encountered, and provide essential guidance for the continued implementation of pastoral strategies.

The meeting witnessed the participation of diocesan secretaries, joint secretaries, core committee members, and implementation committee members, signifying a unified dedication to the diocese's overarching mission.

The proceedings began with a warm welcome extended by Fr. Charles Pereira, the Procurator and Chancellor, who acknowledged the unwavering commitment of all diocesan members in advancing the pastoral mission. This was followed by the lighting of the lamp and words of blessing by Most Rev. Dr. T. Anthony Swamy, Bishop of Chikmagalur.

Following this, Fr. Anil Joel Prasad, the regional coordinator, facilitated an insightful session, offering valuable perspectives on enhancing pastoral outreach. He underscored key strategies aimed at strengthening community engagement, fostering improved collaboration across commissions, and effectively addressing prevailing pastoral needs.

As part of his session, Fr. Anil Joel Prasad also emphasized the importance of passion in leadership within ministry. He highlighted that passion is not merely emotional enthusiasm but a deep and sustained inner drive that leads to meaningful action in service of the Church.

Passion or Desire Brings Forth Action

  1. Understanding Passion in Leadership
Passion in ministry is a deep desire to serve, evangelize, and contribute to the growth of the Church. It is not merely emotional enthusiasm but a sustained inner drive that leads to meaningful action.

  2. Biblical Foundation
    * Jesus' Zeal for His Mission (John 2:17): "Zeal for your house will consume me."
    * St. Paul's Unwavering Commitment (Philippians 3:14): "I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God."
    * Prophet Isaiah's Response (Isaiah 6:8): "Here I am, send me."

  3. Characteristics of Passionate Leaders
    * Mission-driven: Strong sense of purpose.
    * Proactive: Act rather than react.
    * Self-sacrificing: Willing to sacrifice for the greater good.
    * Inspiring: Lead with enthusiasm and vision.

This message served as a powerful motivation for all those present to embrace their roles with renewed dedication and fervour.
Commission Reports and Discussions
Subsequently, each commission secretary or joint secretary presented a summary of their activities spanning the period from January to March 2025. These presentations were structured around three guiding questions:

  1. The specific implementation measures undertaken to execute their respective pastoral plans, including details of workshops, community outreach programs, and collaborations with clergy and laity.

  2. Notable success stories illustrating the positive outcomes of their initiatives, such as increased participation in church activities and the enhancement of community welfare programs.

  3. The challenges encountered during the implementation of pastoral plans, along with the solutions explored and the responses received from clergy, religious members, and the laity regarding commission activities.
The meeting also provided an important forum for attendees to voice their concerns and offer constructive feedback.

The meeting concluded with several key takeaways and resolutions:
* Strengthening collaboration among commissions to enhance overall effectiveness.
* Encouraging greater involvement of the laity in pastoral activities.
* Addressing logistical and financial constraints to ensure the smooth implementation of initiatives.
* Conducting capacity-building workshops to equip members with the necessary skills for pastoral work.
* Establishing regular follow-up mechanisms to monitor progress and address emerging challenges.
